Vale Park - June 2017
On a sunny June afternoon we played our first summer engagement for the year in Vale Park, New Brighton. There was a large appreciative audience relaxing in their deckchairs, soaking in the sun whilst we entertained them.
The band, suitably decked out with sun glasses and factor 50 sun cream, played well to an appreciative audience.
The video above was taken on an ancient camcorder with no anti shake and a screen rendered invisible by the sunlight. If you click on the play button you can hear some extracts from the afternoon - Langstrum Samba, Philip Sparke's Ballad For Benny, Keep Smiling Through and Themes of 007.
We need to thank Linda in the audience who was press ganged into taking the video under impossible conditions.
Below are some images from the concert. Just click on a picture to see it full screen.
Ready To Go
Taken just before we started, a sideways view across the bandstand to the deckchair shed.
Light and Shade
The audience relax in the shade of the surrounding trees whilst the band cooks on the bandstand.
The Long Walk
Our conductor walks over to the audience to tell them about the next piece and, of course, to give the band a well deserved rest.
The Interval at Last
Half Time. The band prepare to dash off to the cafe for a well earned ice cream or a cold drink.
Ian Helps Out
Those of you who read the home page will have seen that we now have a vacancy for a drummer. This is a nice shot of Ian Robinson who helped us out on the day.
A Shot of Gemma or Principal Trombonist
Gemma is a talented trombonist who joined us last year. We played her arrangement of the theme to Game of Thrones and had hoped to have a video of the performance, however the camcorder battery ran out of power before we got there. Hopefully we can get a recording at Ashton Park in a couple of weeks.
