Cosmic Cape Festival 2022

Cosmic Cape.jpgOur first event for 2022, after the Covid pandemic, was at the Cosmic Cape music festival.  We were the first on so, as a result, played to an empty field and a few technicians.   We were a complete contrast to the other pop bands performing and, as we were first, just played to an empty field and a few technicians.  However the sun was shining and it was really good to be playing out again.

Luckily Tom Jackson who plays cornet for Aycliffe and Brancepeth Brass Band was visiting one of our cornet players - Victoria (more about her below). We have to thank him for taking most of the photos below, although he might have been even better employed helping us out by playing!

Unfortunately the stage had so much equipment, monitors, amplifiers, speakers etc, that there was no room for the band.  You get a good view of the stage in this one.

A few moments of relaxation before the start.

Not quite ready to go.  Ruth lost a cork on the long walk to the stage and had to improvise.

The mug on the conductor's stand was on a mission to be photographed in an unusual place - which we think it achieved.

We all got a wrist band, so are now certified artists and possibly musicians.

We played a couple of pieces arranged by cornet player Victoria, Seen here helping out at the end of the back row.  She has just finished her final year at Liverpool university and we can't thank her enough for helping us out by playing, providing us with a number of her arrangements and, not least, for taking over conducting when our regular conductor had to take a sudden sabbatical.

We finished with an arrangement of Sweet Caroline which we expect will be in every band's programme for this summer.
